Mitt Romney

by Daniel @ 1:19 pm in Religion

So I'm categorizing this under "Religion", why? Because I don't have a political category yet. This might also end up being a rant, but lets see how this goes.

So Mitt Romney decides to run for president. I don't know Mitt, I've never voted for him, until recently I didn't know much about him. I first started hearing his name a couple of years ago about MA allowing Same-Sex marriages. I then hear he's LDS, which is a good thing to me. Now George W. Bush is our current president and he's a religious man, God fearing man, etc. So that makes me happy as well. Honestly it's nice to have a president that doesn't shy away from his beliefs so my hat's off to GWB. And you should as well even if you don't like his policy, too many people are too worried about the polls [read Hilary].

What got me the past few days are all the headlines "Mormon, Mitt Romney..." "Mormon enters..." When is the LAST time you saw "Southern Baptist ..." "Catholic ...". What does it matter, what matters is their convictions, core beliefs. I guess it just frustrates me that society is so messed up sometimes. I wish Mitt the best of luck, and if his platform is good, then he'll have my vote.

Daniel, I feel the same way! Why in the world do we care about the religion so much. it seems that some people only care if the person HAS a religion. And then when they don't it's like..."Oh, good, he isn't Christian, he's agnostic, that's a relief. We don't have to worry about this guy at all." Since when did it become better to have no standard for morals than to have a strong, clearly defined standard?

My second rant: I AM SICK OF MULTI LEVEL MARKETING. I get hit up by these guys at least 3 times a month. Usually it is my 'friends" who want me to get involved in some once in a lifetime absolutely perfect and sure opportunity that I can't p*** up. Everyone in utah needs to see this new award winning comedy made by a guy named Loki right here in Orem Utah.

it's called Believe The Movie. It's a Mockumentary/Comedy about an MLM company called BELIEVE.

Go to the website and check out the Mark Fuller Instructional Videos. Very Funny!! I almost died watching them. Daniel, you should blog about this movie and everyone else should.

Down with MLM....and GO MITT!!!

Actually it makes perfect sense why Mitt's religion keeps getting brought up. The LDS church has such a rough history: not allowing blacks to have the priestood, and being a party to the killing of over 150 people (just to name a few). Maybe it's because the LDS church owns half the radio stations in Utah, a TV station, plus many other businesses, making them a corporation. Or maybe it's because when Mitt announced his running for president he made it clear what religion he is. I personally think he will win Utah, but 49 other states are voting too. Most people want a president that believes in god, and that is all that matters.

Brandon,

I'll excuse your opinion since it is biased, but EVERY religion has a bad past, and so do most of our founding fathers. Jefferson had slaves, so did Washington, Lincoln freed the slaves in the south, but not in the North. How many people have Catholics killed in the name of God? How many blacks were hung in the deep south by upstanding members of the batpist church that were in the KKK, but they believed they were right.

I do believe it is ironic how people remember all the negative things about the LDS church, but they do not ever bring up the same bigotry in the other US churches. And I rarely listen to the opinons of UT TV or any TV since most are slanted towards a liberal voice.

So the deep south KILLED blacks while the only thing the Mormon's did was prevent them from having the priesthood, but that was corrected through revelation. If you ask me, I think delaying the priesthood is a MUCH better option than lynching.

But that's just me. And I'm not FROM UT, I just live here now. I've lived in 8 of the 50 states so far.
