iPad “review”

by on Jan.17, 2011, under Games, General, Movies, Personal, Work

My lovely wife bought me an iPad for Christmas.  Truly a great surprise!

But what are my thoughts on it now that I’ve had it almost a month?

In brief “I love it”.

Why is the bigger question.

  1. I’m always doing things on my phone like email, browsing etc. Having the iPad makes life much easier to cope with than before.  The iPad email client is great and allows easy access to my email from anywhere I can get a wifi connection
  2. Browsing is “okay”. The iPad, like the iPhone, do not support flash, so it is crippled on many websites.  But after reading several arguments about why they don’t, I’m still on the fence.
  3. Size and portability.  It’s so much lighter than a laptop, I really enjoy it and 90% of my work can be done on it, so I’m good there.
  4. Programs: I am “thrifty” and hardly buy anything, and I’ve had no reason to with my iPad yet.
  5. Games (yes programs): They have some really cool games my kids love and so do I.
  6. Netflix: Ok still another program, but it’s great being able to just haul it around and watch whatever I want in the house (Battlestar’s on Netflix now)

Overall I’m very pleased with it.  I love having it at work to help me deal with emails during the day.  I play games with my kids, and it is really convenient.  I hear rumors of the iPad 2 with front and back camera’s, but honestly I have no desire to have those features. I love the one I have.

If my wife reads this, Thanks Hun!

Inspiration!

I showed this video to my kids tonight,  I told my oldest this is why we practice and this is why we work towards something we want.

Great inspiration (make sure you turn closed caption on, this guy ends up winning the China’s got Talent)

Westinghouse 1080P 42″ LCD TV – HDMI stopped working – Fix

by on Jul.26, 2009, under General

So I just bought a Magnavox NB530MGX Blu-ray player and hooked it up to my Westinghouse 1080p 42″ LCD TV and nothing happened.  I brought the cable and unit back to where I purchased it and swapped out the cable since it when we tested the cable it didn’t work in the store, but another cable did.  Problem solved! WRONG!  I got home hooked it back up and still nothing in the HDMI inputs, none of the 4 HDMI hook ups worked.  After doing some research I finally found out that it was not the blu-ray player but in fact it was the Westinghouse 1080p 42″ LCD TV that was having the problem.  In order to fix the problem you need to “reset” the TV.  To do this follow these steps:

  1. Turn the power off
  2. Press and hold the power button for about 10 minutes seconds
  3. Watch a big “W” appear on the TV
  4. Reconnect the HDMI cable

This should be good news for people that get a blu-ray player, people that want to hook up their Playstation 3 (PS 3), an HD Connection on their xbox 360.

Great Quote

My friend Sean had this posted on his face book account, I thought it was good enough to share:

“Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves.” -Helen Keller

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008)

by on Jan.12, 2009, under General, SEO, Videos

Today I was looking at the people choice award nominee’s for user generated content.  Most really weren’t that good.  I didn’t really like the winner, except it did take a lot of time and effort to find the quotes from Obama.  The Star Wars lip sync was actually a guy that had nothing to do with the original song, it was from a group out here in Utah.  The swimming one was just annoying.  Wassup 2008, well ok it was good, but depressing.  My favorite after watching all of them has to be “Where the Hell is Matt (2008)”.  First He got to travel a TON so I’m jealous, second, the guy own the phrase “Matt” on Google.. how flippen cool is that!  This is an amazing example of how viral videos can help with your seo effort to own certain terms.  Take a look below:

No idea really, I’m testing out evoBlog for evo-dev to see how well it works and figured I might as well try the whole blogging thing out. You’ll probably see political topics, computer topics, gaming topics etc. So we’ll see what happens
