Microsoft PST File repair
by Daniel on Jan.04, 2009, under Rants, Work
So I have a bunch of old PST files that I have archived from many years back. I went to get some old email and sure enough the file was somehow corrupted. I swear that computers are like old shed doors that rust if you don’t put some oil on them every few months. So I’m pretty screwed and then I got a hold of this PST Repair program (click to download) I liked it because it had a free trial to basically tell me if I were really screwed or if it could be repaired before I bought the software. So do the download if you see this and need to repair a pst file. I had 3 I could recover and 1 that was totally hosed, but 3 outta 4 is better than 0. Hope this helps someone somewhere out there.
Idiot’s On the Road
by Daniel on Feb.27, 2007, under Rants
Today was a really bad snow storm and it took me 4 hours round trip to get to work and come back home since the roads and weather was so bad. On the return trip the roads had been cleared pretty well and had some slush on them, so still dangerous. Everyone’s moving along pretty well, and suddenly this JERK in a big 4×4 pick up truck come whizzing by at an excessive speed and throws 1 – 2 inches on my window, and I mean my WHOLE window. So much crap that my wipers wouldn’t move. I’m going about 40 on the freeway, blind, cannot see a thing. Fortunately I was able to move to the side of the road, still blind, but able to see that I’m not about to side swipe anyone. I end up on the side of the road about 30 feet off of it. I was lucky enough to have seen a pole that informed me I was about 10 feed from a large wall. I get out clean my window and slinked my way through the snow back to the freeway.
So some jerk speeding far more than they should in their 4×4 almost cause me to be in a serious accident, and I would have NO WAY to find out who they were. Sadly my windshield has a horizontal crack that I now need to get replaced. So Thanks JERK! (I feel better now)
Great tech support Comcast
by Daniel on Dec.05, 2005, under Rants
We’ve been having constant issues with our internet connection the last couple of days. So we call Comcast and they give us the whole, “Unplug your modem and router” blah blah.
Well last couple of days it’s worked great, but today no dice. Get Joe Support on the line (wife does cause I’m sick of stupid people), tells us to do our thing which we just did. Then he says, well its something wrong with your computer.
So yeah just this morning both of our computers decided to change a random setting to make it not work. WHAT EVER. “Go hire a network geek pay him $50 and supper to get him to fix it.” Yeah sure… “Or replace your router and cables” Nice another $50 non-solution. I guess they only look inwards cause later we went to the internet health and did a few tracerts and found out AT&T was hiccuping something serious.
So I guess Comcasts support is about as helpful as my daughter. Simply restart… that’s their solution, then blame the customer NICE!
Some People!
by Daniel on Nov.18, 2005, under Rants
We just moved into our new house about 2 months ago, and the builder is building a house next door to us. They stopped working on it for abut 2 week and then a flurry of activity when the owner decide they wanted to finish the basement.
Let me give some background before I go off on why I’m irritated. A few weeks ago a guy knocks on the door and asks if he could use my water to fill his pressure washer to clean the park down the street. Now mind you it’s a 50-60 gallon container. I said sure, he replies, “how about 5 times?” I figure sure, its for the neighborhood so why not, at least he asked.
So back to my story. The other day I see my hose pulled over to the house next to me. Now I didn’t do it, and I sure didn’t bring it to the back yard where all I have is dirt! So I know it’s the construction workers next door. So I UNHOOK my hose and leave it there. So today these AHOLES rehook my hose and start using it. So I call the builder and say WT Heck is going on. If they would have asked I wouldn’t be upset at all, but the fact that they REHOOKED it and didn’t even ask! That’s what chaps my hide. JUST FLIPPEN ASK PEOPLE! I still have to pay for it, and in UT water isn’t cheap.
Time Outs
by Daniel on Nov.09, 2005, under Rants
WTF is up with Timing out? I have a great post almost ready and then I hit submit and the dang server timed out on me! What good is that! I mean it wasn’t that long. And I have timeouts set to like 5 days on the application. So you all missed a great post on the DVD Iron Giant I saw the other day. Deal with it
Online vs. In-Store
by Daniel on Oct.18, 2005, under Rants
So I go to Walmart.com yesterday and I see a couple of DVD’s I’d like to get. One is season two of smallville for $19.95 a great price considering Best Buy has it for $44. I didn’t really expect it to be in the store so I wasn’t disappointed when it wasn’t there. But while I was on their website, I looked up the move “Kingdom of Heaven” and it was $15.87. I thought great when I’m at the store I’ll just pick that up instead. But NOOOO it’s $19.95 at the store, and Walmart won’t price match itself. So I could go home buy it from walmart.com and have it shipped to me cheaper than if I were to buy it in the store. Now that’s retarded!
Also if you live in an area with multiple Wal-Mart’s check the prices you’ll see they actually vary their prices from location to location according to the area they are in. Example when I was in Dallas, I went to one in Arlington and they had the book cases for $39.99, then a little north (can’t remember exact store, but a nicer [wealthier] town) they were $49.99, then in South Lake (very rich area) they were $59.99 so look for your low economic area and shop your favorite Wal-Mart there….
