My lovely wife bought me an iPad for Christmas. Truly a great surprise!

But what are my thoughts on it now that I’ve had it almost a month?

In brief “I love it”.

Why is the bigger question.

I’m always doing things on my phone like email, browsing etc. Having the iPad makes life much easier to cope with than before. The iPad email client is great and allows easy access to my email from anywhere I can get a wifi connection

Browsing is “okay”. The iPad, like the iPhone, do not support flash, so it is crippled on many websites. But after reading several arguments about why they don’t, I’m still on the fence.

Size and portability. It’s so much lighter than a laptop, I really enjoy it and 90% of my work can be done on it, so I’m good there.

Programs: I am “thrifty” and hardly buy anything, and I’ve had no reason to with my iPad yet.

Games (yes programs): They have some really cool games my kids love and so do I.

Netflix: Ok still another program, but it’s great being able to just haul it around and watch whatever I want in the house (Battlestar’s on Netflix now)

Overall I’m very pleased with it. I love having it at work to help me deal with emails during the day. I play games with my kids, and it is really convenient. I hear rumors of the iPad 2 with front and back camera’s, but honestly I have no desire to have those features. I love the one I have.

If my wife reads this, Thanks Hun!

I was able to go a midnight showing on Thursday with my Brother-in-law to see the Watchmen.

A couple of things offend me about the whole marketing/release of this movie. First they always refer to the best selling graphic novel, when it was originally a twelve part macro series. I know this because I have the 12 originals in my collection (no I don’t collect anymore this is from when I was in high school). Second I was pretty astonished at all of the interviewers that said it stuck to the comics too well. I find this funny because what is one of the first things someone does for a movie? Create the story and storyboards, how simple just staple the pages up on the wall and done!

I will say I dug out my books to page through them after seeing the movie, it’s been a long time since I’d seen them. And sure enough I paged through them and the movie was very visually accurate to the book, so I was really impressed by that. They did make some changes to the story, and cut out a few things (think cast-a-way), but overall they story remained very true to it’s origin’s. That made me surprisingly happy.

If you’ve never read the Watchmen, I think it could be a hard movie. It’s very long and the characters are very deep. It’s incredibly dark and they depicted violence visually unlike some of the comic books. I will warn you that if you are not in to gore, sexuality, a naked blue man (and yes NAKED), and violence than this movie might not be for you.

Out of 5 stars, I give it a 4.5.

So I saw this movie in the theater and just got the DVD for Christmas so I thought I’d make a quick post about it. I was incredibly impressed with the job Robert Downey Jr. did in the role. His portrayal of Stark was great in this movie. He played the role of a shocked ego manic that realized that he had a profound impact on the world and with all his riches he could make a difference. The great irony I saw in this movie was he used his great fortune to fight his own weapons that made him that fortune, sort of a twisted loop.

Now the fx in this movie were excellent the Ironman out fit and Iron Monger were phenomenal. Of all the superhero movies that have come out lately this was my favorite (ok maybe Dark Knight was close too). The CGI was very well done and I almost believed a man could build a suit like that and trounce around the world. A couple of things will make more sense if you watch the deleted scenes, like how did he go from Malibu to Afghan without being detected. But even with a few questions the movie had a good story line and has now begun to build the ground work for the Avengers.

I’ll give this one 4.5 outta 5 stars.

I haven’t done a movie review but felt like this one deserved one.

So Evan Baxter the news anchor that Bruce made a fool of in the first movie, runs for Congress and wins on the platform of changing the world.

They move to a BEAUTIFUL HUGE house and start all over. His wife and kids have a little prayer, the kids want to hike with their dad, and the wife wants their family to be closer. She suggests that if Evan wants to change the world he might need a little help…. So Evan says his prayer.

Things happen and sure enough God presents himself and gives Evan the task to build an ARK. Overall the reviews on this movie were not flattering, but I think they saw the movie for the wrong reason.

#1 It was funny
#2 It had a good message
#3 It was not offensive
#4 It had birds crapping on John Goodman (Not that John’s bad, but his character was a jerk)

The best item in the movie was God’s talk with Evan’s wife. She was leaving her husband cause of his “ARK” project, but “Al Mighty” there to save the day as a waiter. Evan’s wife told him about his husbands problems and about God, and the topic of prayer came up. The gist of it was, “If you prayer for God for more patience, does he give you patience, or does he give you opportunity to be more patient; if you ask for courage, does he make you courageous, or give you the chance to show courage; if you ask for time together as a family, does he put you together, or give you the opportunity to be together with things in your life”

So thumbs up, go see it! If you don’t like it sorry, if you do you can thank me

On my birthday, my wife and I ran off to see the movie Bridge to Terabithia. I had never read the book so my perception of the movie was based on the previews. If you’ve seen the previews, and expect a fanciful movie similar to The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, you’ll be disappointed. If you have read the book, you will probably be prepared for what you’ll see.

In short the story is about two young kids and the trials they face in life and how through their friendship and imagination they create a wonderful world called Terabithia. They are the King and Queen and we see their friendship grow to something truly meaningful. As all of us grow up we have those friends that we are inseparable from. They are the folks that help mold who we are, for better or worse. This movie has it’s tragedy which I didn’t feel was portrayed in such a way that made it as wrenching as it should have been.

The tragedy does lead me to believe it would not be a movie I’d take my daughter too, but it makes me think that I want to read the book and then possibly read it to her. I cannot give this movie really high marks because the marketing was very misleading, but I can give it a recommendation to those that want a good story and a reminder of your youth.

Well Peter Jackson did a great job. What I really loved about the movie was that Kong was a wild Animal. The really didn’t humanize him anymore than Gorilla’s really are. He movements, sounds, fantastic! Special effects rocked. And I HATE BUGS! So I hated parts of the movie The Trex scene was great. Now about the actors. Jack Black was great, he played a self centered producer/director who only saw life through the lens, regardless of the cost. I think Naomi Watts, did a good job conveying feeling for the Gorilla, not love, but compassion. She realized he was a victim, and only lived off of instinct.

4.5 outta 5. Go see it, it’s a must on a big screen!

This was one of my favorite stories when I was a kid so seeing it come to the big screen was very exciting. I wasn’t sure how things would turn out, how would Aslan be on the screen?

Well I have to say it was fantastic! I do believe it was given an incorrect rating, it should have been PG-13 not simply PG. There was a lot of violence and a bit of older content (i.e. sacrifice of Aslan). The picture was definately a beautiful piece of work, breath taking visually and stunning special effects. As a friend said, “It reminds me of LOTR with kids”. I’m really interested to see if they do all stories from the Chronicles, but so far, I’m looking forward to the next in this fantastic story!

First 5 outta 5 I’ve given. Could be becuase it had everything I look for in a movie, a story I love, great visual effects, and a yearning for more.

We went out and bought the DVD the other day. We loved that movie, wanted to borrow it from my slacker brother-in-law, but he wasn’t around so we grabbed it. The Van Helsing character used to be an old foggy.

Hugh Jackman was perfect, however he seems to be stereo-typed. Both of his big roles are characters that are violent, they are lost and have no idea about their past. Guess it makes it easy to prepare for the role when the underlying characteristics are the same.

Movie had great special effects, decent story, nice mix of the three big monsters, Count Dracula, Werewolf, and Frankenstien. If you want a great movie, and want to see a good monster movie this is for you! Enjoy go rent, GO BUY!

4 outta 5 stars.

It was predictable at times, I saw a few of the twist very early in the movie, where my wife didn’t see them all. It was a nice movie with a cute story. It is defiately a “Chick Flick”, but at the cheap theater it was definately worth seeing on the big screen.

If you want a feel good movie / love story this is a good movie. It has it’s moments of funnies, and a few very serious moments. But overall it was enjoyable to me. I give it a 3.0 outta 5 (if I paid full price I might have said a 2.5 )

Basic Outline: The game is played by two brothers; they are 10 and 6 3/4′s years old. They have the standard sibling rivalry and the pretty much hate each other. The younger brother admires the older brother, but dislikes how he’s treated. The older brother blames the other brother for their parents break up. So you have the outline for the classic combat between brothers when they realize, they are sometimes all they have. They play this whacked up game that takes them into space for a trip to Zathura! Threw meteor showers, violent robots, and some sort of funky incest’s under tones…. they have one heck of a trip!

Went and saw Zarthura (Jumanji II) tonight. It was a fun show. It was predictable, half way through the movie; I realized one of the major plot twists. So I was disappointed that it was so transparent.

The visual effects were very good, if you like to see movies cause they have lots of explosions; then this ones for you! I would NOT recommend it for younger children probably 9+ on this one, lots of freaky things, violence etc. I left the movie the same way I felt after Jumanji, it was a fun ride, but I didn’t gain much from it.

I’ll have to give this one a 3.25 outta 5, the effects are worth the big screen!
