Keyword Research

by Daniel on Dec.31, 2008, under PPC, SEO, Work

I’m helping a friend out with some paid campaigns they are doing and have started to help them do some keyword research.  One of the best tools to use is actually Google’s Keyword tool.  It will tell you the approximate search volume, and even the monthly trends to help you understand the cycle of the words you are doing.  There are a lot of other tools out there, but start off with the free on from Google and then decided to move on elsewhere later.

The first thing you need to do is put a single keyword in and let it generate synonms, and you’ll get a gaggle of information.  After you’ve done that, feel free to have the same tool look at your competitor’s site.  What a great way to have Google tell you what keywords they think your competitors are good at ranking for?  This applies for both PPC and SEO, you’ll want to use the keyword list to develop content and expand your PPC campaigns.

Movie: Ironman

by Daniel on Dec.27, 2008, under Movies

So I saw this movie in the theater and just got the DVD for Christmas so I thought I’d make a quick post about it.  I was incredibly impressed with the job Robert Downey Jr. did in the role.  His portrayal of Stark was great in this movie.  He played the role of a shocked ego manic that realized that he had a profound impact on the world and with all his riches he could make a difference.  The great irony I saw in this movie was he used his great fortune to fight his own weapons that made him that fortune, sort of a twisted loop.

Now the fx in this movie were excellent the Ironman out fit and Iron Monger were phenomenal.  Of all the superhero movies that have come out lately this was my favorite (ok maybe Dark Knight was close too).  The CGI was very well done and I almost believed a man could build a suit like that and trounce around the world.   A couple of things will make more sense if you watch the deleted scenes, like how did he go from Malibu to Afghan without being detected.  But even with a few questions the movie had a good story line and has now begun to build the ground work for the Avengers.

I’ll give this one 4.5 outta 5 stars.

Press Releases

by Daniel on Dec.27, 2008, under SEO

One of the most overlooked way to obtain quality inbound links is by using press releases.  Just about every site or company can come up with a reason to do a press release.  If you place a logical link in your release to your site and it’s picked up by a company then you’ll have another link into your site.  Now put it in persepective, you can some times get  a release picked up by 100’s of sites, now imagine doing a good release once a month, you could get a significant amount of new links every month and you can publish release for a relatively low cost from a couple of hundred dollar to even free at some sites.

Dad’s Day After Christmas

by Daniel on Dec.27, 2008, under Personal

Things a father should never be left alone to do with his kids:

  1. Put nail polish on
  2. Help his daughters with a “Make-Over”
    1. Including lip gloss
    2. Eye Shadow
    3. Blush etc….  this is not something daddy’s are good at!
  3. Playing Dress Up
  4. Playing with Barbies… especially when you hear this: “Daddy You get the Naked Barbie”

I love my daughters, but look forward to my son getting older.

Funny Christmas Stats

by Daniel on Dec.26, 2008, under Games

In February of 2007 I made a post that I hope helped some people solve a problem with their Wii about a connection issue.  Well apparently a ton of people are still having that problem, because my traffic from Google for that has sky rocketed.

Nintendo Wii 52030 Error

Check out the post, nothing special, just basic help!

Christmas at the Hospital

by Daniel on Dec.26, 2008, under Personal

So Christmas morning our 17 month old son woke up not looking so well.  But he seemed to be acting ok and was getting around.  We do our Christmas morning with the family, have a nice breakfast etc.  Our son takes his nap and when he wakes up he has a slight fever and a lot of discharge from his eyes.  We clean him up but his fever is at 101.8.  We called his Doctor and she said to give him some ibuprofen and if his fever continues to elevate we should bring him in.  Sure enough he hit 104, so we headed to the ER (since nothing else was open).  He looked miserable!  He has conjunctivitis and sinusitis, poor guy!  He’s still sleeping in this morning, so hopefully he’ll start feeling better today as we get antibiotics in him and medicine in his eyes…  Another Christmas to remember!

Christmas Reflections

by Daniel on Dec.23, 2008, under Personal

When I grew up Christmas was a big holiday for my family.  My father was especially fond of it and decked out the outside of the house every year.  I remember we had schematics showing where everything went, how all the rows of light should be placed over the windows on the roof etc.  My father passed away in 1995 and sometimes I reflect on things, especially this time of year since it reminds me of him, also his birthday is in  January.  I used to be very torn up at his loss, but I’ve learned a lot and have grown a lot.  I did however hear this song the other day called Homesick by Mercy Me and it just made me think back about him and Christmas.  Enjoy the song, I know I did.
